Sand Section
120 Highland Avenue (4br/3ba, 2724 sqft.) is a late 90s TH in the South End with some ocean peeks.
There are no interior photos, on account of the fact that the home is very much lived in (for years) and they haven't yet had time to clear it out or stage. Upon visiting, it takes some imagining to "see" the house through all of that.
Still, there is a sizable home here – closer to 3000 sqft. than not. The main living spaces are on the middle, entry level, along with one bedroom. There are some views at the corner, looking down the 2nd St. walkstreet.
Upstairs are two more bedrooms, including a sizable primary. There's a quirky loft/office area above the central stairs that's pretty inviting.
On the ground level is a bedroom, laundry and garage, and the listing touts that that 4th bedroom could be used as a separate unit/ADU.
From the official description:
"Wonderful location in South Manhattan Beach on the corner of 2nd Street and Highland Ave. This not your typical 3 level floorplan. The front door is on the 2nd Street side, second level, where the entryway takes you into the living room with hardwood floors, ocean view deck, kitchen, dining area and on rear of the house is a one bedroom with 3/4 bath. The 3rd floor houses the master bedroom and bath, ocean view deck and one more bedroom at rear of the house. On the ground floor you have one more bedroom and bath, with separate entry if needed, could work as an ADU. The large 2 car garage can actually hold 2 smaller cars end to end and one full size vehicle, currently the tenant has large workbench so he uses it as a 2 car garage. It has a 3 stop elevator and on second level there is a separate storage room off the deck."
120 Highland Avenue begins at $3.600M.

1704 Highland Avenue (4br/4ba, 3308 sqft.) is a sizable view TH near downtown that returns to market after a little more than 3 months off.
Crucially, the new start price ($4.295M) is more than $1.550M lower than the price first sought in Dec. 2023 ($5.849M).
From the official description:
"With sweeping panoramic ocean views from Palos Verdes to Malibu, 1704 Highland Avenue offers a rare blend of coastal luxury, prime location, and architectural elegance in the heart of Manhattan Beach’s coveted Sand Section... The top-floor entertainment level is a light-filled sanctuary, crowned by soaring vaulted ceilings. Here, a gourmet kitchen boasts a massive island, stainless steel appliances, and bar seating, seamlessly flowing into a cozy breakfast nook equipped with a wine fridge, secondary sink, and beverage chiller. The adjoining butler’s pantry ensures effortless hosting, leading to a stunning living and dining area complete with a fireplace. Sliding glass doors open to a large, trellis-covered balcony that frames show-stopping ocean vistas. Descend the dramatic curved staircase (or take the convenient 3-stop elevator) to the second level, where three spacious bedrooms await. The resort-like owner's suite features a private terrace, a walk-in closet, a fireplace, and an opulent ensuite bathroom with a jetted tub, walk-in shower, and dual vanities. Two additional bedrooms on this level share a stylish Jack & Jill bathroom, offering both comfort and privacy. The lower level is a haven for relaxation and entertainment. A large guest suite with an ensuite bathroom provides a private retreat, while a fully equipped laundry room adds convenience. The highlight of this level is a cinema-style theater room, complete with a wet bar and beverage chiller—perfect for movie nights or watching the big game."

520 Johnson Street (5br/4ba, 3126 sqft.) is a fully flat, single-level home built along a sloping lot, featuring a 60s throwback aesthetic mixed with some updates, mainly to the kitchen.
You'll enter midway through the home into its living spaces, which feature cathedral ceilings. Four bedrooms, including the primary, are off to one side, while a 5th is way in back on the south side of the home, more like a private guest suite.
If location is your thing, it's worth noting that the house directly across Johnson is the double-lot modern that just went under contract, last seen asking $12.899M. There goes the neighborhood!
