To celebrate our 16th year online here at MB Confidential, we wanted to make a little joke like, "Now this website is old enough to drive."
But with all the weird headlines about AI chatbots and driverless cars these days, maybe we'd best just skip that.
Still, we do want to commemorate the journey as we finish 16 and begin Year 17.
Many readers have been with us from the start, in 2007. So you know this site began as an anonymous blog – a hobby, really. If you can believe it, compiling spreadsheets and publishing critiques and analyses of Manhattan Beach real estate was an end-of-day stress relief at a time of profound stress.
You'd have to be a little crazy to start (and keep up) a real estate website when you don't even work in the business, but we didn't (yet), and yeah, it was a crazy time in life.
As MBC evolved, this site, and readers' reactions to it, inspired Dave to enter the business of local real estate. MBC now helps support a small team at Edge Real Estate Agency dedicated to doing local real estate the right way.
And we've branched out, with, for example, the all-news, all-Manhattan-Beach MB News (powered by Jeanne, a.k.a. Mrs. MBC) and a website with all real estate south from Santa Barbara to San Diego, socal.homes.
As an agent, Dave has become a consistent top producer in the Manhattan Beach market.
Concretely, in Dave's first 10 full years working this market, he's ranked #5 in terms of the number of buyers represented in Manhattan Beach, some years placing #1. (Those finishing above Dave for buyer representation over those 10 years were two large teams, and two local agents with far longer histories working the city. Not an easy chart to crack!)
With a background in advertising and our digital marketing expertise, Dave and the Edge office also consistently sell local listings for top dollar.
If you might be in the market this year, we'd be honored to hear from you. (Email Dave.)
We're still dedicated to keeping real estate real here.
We launched MBC as the market was entering interesting times.
We find ourselves again in interesting times, don't we?
Come what may, we'll do all we can here to help you track this market by telling it like it is, charting and graphing interesting trends, and documenting all the comings and goings in the market. We really think this market works better when everyone is better informed.
As we pointed out upon last month's launch of this new MB Confidential design, we've also built a lot of tools here on MBC to help you see properties in nearby South Bay markets and to track market activity in the area.
Why go anywhere else when the whole South Bay is online here?
Every chance we get, we want to remind you and all our readers how much we appreciate your attention, feedback and support.
You helped us start a new business, kept us close to home (no more endless business travel!) and inspired us to engineer the single best hyperlocal website that any community has for its real estate market.
So, thank you again!
