You know who needed and deserved some Hollywood? Vin Scully.

It's almost a week now since Charlie Culberson (who?) etched his name in Dodgers history by hitting an extra-innings walkoff homer to claim the division title for the Dodgers, making Vin Scully's last home game very, very special. A Hollywood ending, you could almost say.

Yes, Vin deserved that.

Now, here in Manhattan Beach, you don't see a lot of people going Hollywood. It's a much more low-key town. If you've got it, you don't flaunt it. Any exceptions prove the rule.

108 The Strand Manhattan Beach CAWhich is a long way of getting to this point... Guess who's going Hollywood this week? The most expensive house in Manhattan Beach: 108 The Strand, now asking $19.995M.

They hired that guy from TV's "Million Dollar Listing" in the apparent hope of boosting publicity for the home, which ran 4 months on market earlier this year at essentially the same price. (Disclosure: Dave recently met "that guy" although we have no idea if Mr. Altman would remember.)

The notion of selling a high-end Manhattan Beach property via reality TV in lieu of relying on a top-tier local broker is, as far as we can tell, untested. One to watch. 

Maybe more interestingly, you, John Q. Public, are invited to 108 The Strand on Sunday. [Ed: Why bury the lede, Dave?]

Tree Section

6 Laurel Manhattan Beach CA

6 Laurel Square (4br/3ba, 2375 sqft.) is the most completely remodeled/updated home in the 14-unit complex right by American Martyrs known as Laurel Square.

All of the homes are built around a common area consisting of a sports court and a pool. (Indeed, the common area is the "backyard" of all the units; all back patios look out on one another, essentially.)

This darling and inspired home stands out amid the mid-1970s originals by a lot. They've added a beach-classic/modern design, opened up the first floor a great deal and made the home feel all but new.

All 4br are upstairs, none especially large, but fine. Three share a hallway bath.

653 27th Street Manhattan Beach CA

653 27th (4br/2ba, 1925 sqft.) offers 4br and more square footage than you might expect in a little, original cottage. But this one is still more land + a cottage rather than the cute, remodeled, expanded home you might wish for at first blush.

The layout is challenged, with bedrooms hither and thither, some baths unimproved, faux flooring standing in for what might have been hardwood, and so on. It is, as they say, an "in-betweener," one you could buy to grab the great location and work on over time, or maybe it is just a land sale in this market. More from the official description:

575 29th (4br/3ba, 3325 sqft.) is a large-feeling 1980s house that maintains much of that original, somewhat experimental, vibe. It's a good amount of space in an exceptionally quiet, walkable location. They haven't gone crazy on pricing, knowing that today's buyers will probably want to do some work.
