Weekend Opens (11/10-11/11/18)

By Dave Fratello | November 10th, 2018

The new offerings each weekend will begin to be fewer for the balance of the year now.

For instance, there are only 3 new listings with open houses this weekend (all referenced below).

We're on "pause" for new videos for a while, too, as there are not enough new listings for now.

But here's the big headline for the weekend: The Roundhouse Aquarium at the end of the Manhattan Beach pier has now re-opened after a massive renovation.

You can now visit 10AM-sunset on weekends, or 2PM-5PM weekdays.

(See DigMB's news on the ceremonial re-opening earlier this week. There is a lot of detail about the charitable efforts to remake the aquarium and the roundhouse's history in that article.)

Here's what to expect: A complete experience packed into a small space. The former cafe at the "front" (east) side of the Roundhouse was removed and added to the aquarium floor space. This means visitors can see through the aquarium to the Pacific ocean upon entry. Look up, and you'll see an inspired two-sided aquarium with jellyfish floating freely.

Two large tanks greet visitors upon entry, leading toward the back, where a touch tank and more displays are available. Head upstairs for both freshwater and tropical tanks, plus a teaching station.

The Roundhouse Aquarium features a lot of local sea life. So if you ever wonder what's beneath the pier or just off the coast, pop in to see it up close and personal.

There is no question as to why the new spot was deemed the "crown jewel" of Manhattan Beach. The Roundhouse already features prominently in memories and photos. It's now a must-see in-person experience as well.
