Weekend Opens (9/1-9/2/18)

Now 124 years into the celebration of Labor Day, its meaning sure has changed.

Yes, we're all glad there's no child labor anymore and still basically thankful for unions, where they still exist and make sense, but what about this "gig economy?" Everyone seems to be an independent contractor and/or entrepreneur, in some form.

Who even has a "job" anymore? Only fuddy-duddies, right?

These are some deep thoughts you can share on this last official weekend of Summer, whether out at the beach, or at a backyard bbq wearing those white pants for the last time, or driving people around in your car for money ride-sharing.

Whatever you do, we hope you're safe and we'll see you in Fall... in a few days.

Local real estate is going to be slow this weekend. There's just one new listing we could feature, 1012 Rowell, a super remodel in East Manhattan.

So we went ahead and added a few more "highlights" to the weekend list, featuring some listings that would be fine to see if you're visiting town.

2816 Crest Drive Manhattan Beach CA 2816 Crest (3br/4ba, 1890 sqft.) is a newer (2007) ocean-view TH in a beachy style with some recent refreshing work done. The views as seen today appear, sincerely, to be protected, thanks to the topography of the two full lots directly in front of the property. (Are we making this sound simple or difficult? Anyway, buyer to verify!)

This is a very comfortable home in a somewhat timeless style. The hickory floors have been sanded and revived, providing a natural feel that stands out a bit with some of the styles that prevail in newer homes today. Overall, very pleasant but with some opportunity to upgrade.

435 10th435 10th Street Manhattan Beach CA (4br/3ba, 2025 sqft.) is a unique charmer on a walkstreet corner with great upgrades.

The home has something of an "old world" flavor in its original design, but modern designer updates. They've done the most possible with the existing space, tucking little master closets here and there, remodeling baths and providing plenty of style within the home.

Tree Section

3401 Maple3401 Maple Avenue Manhattan Beach CA (5br/6ba, 3250 sqft.) is new construction in a unique modern style.

It's got echoes of two recent sales from this year: the split-garage modern at 1501 Elm (4br/5ba, 3160, $3.125M) and an East Manhattan build by the same builder as 3401 Maple, 1540 Curtis (5br/5ba, 4400 sqft., $3.455M).

The common spaces are bright and open to a smallish backyard that's got tiered with an uphill slope behind it. The modern style is softened somewhat with the use of the same brick outside, in the kitchen backsplash area and in the living room fireplace.
