Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair
The Manhattan Beach Old Hometown Fair dates back to 1972, when a group of residents launched the idea of a fair to promote community spirit. The fair was incorporated in 1977 as a California non-profit organization, and it has been a successful non-profit venture ever since. It is organized and produced by an all-volunteer board.
Many features of the fair are beloved traditions that return each year. From that first year forward, the fair has always started with a parade at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning led by the Mira Costa High School band, drill teams, and various city dignitaries in convertibles and old cars. The fair has also always included local craft booths, non-profit food and game booths as well as a variety of entertainment for children and adults.
Some ongoing features of the fair include a display of works by local artists at the Joslyn Center, musical entertainment featuring local bands at two performance stages, and free rides and petting zoos for kids in the Kids Country section.
The fair’s food and paid game activities, run by teams, clubs, and non-profits from the local community, fill both Dorsey and Live Oak fields. These booths help the groups raise money to support their organizations.
The popular Beer Garden and Wine Garden also both provide opportunities for local non-profits to work the booths and raise money for their organizations.
The fair runs each year on the first weekend of October, on both Saturday and Sunday. It begins on Saturday morning after the running of the Manhattan Beach 10K.
