Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks

The Manhattan Beach Holiday Fireworks is an annual December tradition that is unique to Manhattan Beach.

First held in 1988 as a way for downtown Manhattan Beach merchants to kick off the holiday season, the fireworks have evolved into a major event. Each year, thousands of locals and visitors come out to watch from downtown, where streets are closed to allow spectators to gather, and along the beach.

Typically held on the second Sunday in December, the fireworks event stretches into nearly a full day’s worth of activities. The event begins in the afternoon with a snow park and other recreational activities for kids, followed by musical performances by local groups and ensembles.

The fireworks, however, are clearly the main event. Throughout the day, parking spaces become increasingly difficult to come by, and the coveted seating spots along the Strand and Manhattan Beach Blvd. begin to fill up quickly throughout the late afternoon.

The show always begins at 7:00 p.m., rain or shine. The fireworks are set off over the Manhattan Beach Pier while the audience watches from the beach and downtown. For more information, check the fireworks event website.

The event was recognized as the best of its kind in 2013 by the Travel Channel's "Jingle Brawls" show.
