About the American Martyrs Area

The American Martyrs district of the Tree Section is a prime Manhattan Beach neighborhood. It is an area of roughly 10 square blocks, with the Catholic Church and American Martyrs Catholic School at its center.

The steeple of the church, with its shiny, golden dome, is visible from many parts of Manhattan Beach, and its ringing church bells resonate across the Tree Section and downtown.

The Martyrs area is bordered by Pacific Ave. to the east, Valley/Ardmore both to the west and north, and Manhattan Beach Boulevard to the south.

Homes in the American Martyrs area are much sought-after for their proximity to downtown, the quiet, walkable blocks and – in the hilly areas of the Marytrs area, just up from Ardmore – for ocean views.

The tree-lined blocks of Laurel Ave. and ultra-private Agnes Rd. are considered to be the best suburban streets of the area. (Pictured just below is 2300 Laurel Ave., a 3br/3ba, 2000 sqft. house sold in 2014 for $2.425M.)

The southern-most district of the American Martyrs neighborhood, just a couple of blocks from Manhattan Beach Blvd. to 13th Street, typically has smaller lots (around 3000 sqft.) and was recently re-zoned to permit 3-story development, zoning more commonly found in the Manhattan Beach Sand Section.

Children living in the American Martyrs Neighborhood of the Tree Section are in the Pacific Elementary public school district. Many families choose to live in this area specifically to be near the catholic school, and have their children attend there instead.

For middle school and high school, all Manhattan Beach public school students go to Manhattan Beach Middle School and Mira Costa High School.
