Manhattan Beach Open - AVP

The AVP Gold Series/Manhattan Beach Open - a large-scale professional beach volleyball tournament held in mid-August - is known as both the "granddaddy" of all beach volleyball tournaments and also as the Wimbledon of beach volleyball.

When the AVP Manhattan Beach Open opens, it’s nearly impossible to miss because the South side of the Pier is taken over by a large temporary beach volleyball stadium.

The tournament begins on a Wednesday with qualifying rounds and culminates in final rounds on Sunday. The winners - a pair of men and a pair of women - are then immortalized with plaques honoring their victories on the “Volleyball Walk of Fame” on the Manhattan Beach Pier.

As part of the professional volleyball player's tour, the tournament draws the top beach volleyball players in the country, including many Olympians and national champions. Hometown heroes who have won the Manhattan Beach Open include volleyball standouts - and Olympic medalists - Mike Dodd and Holly McPeak.
