Manhattan Beach Polliwog Park
The 18-acre Polliwog Park is the largest park in the South Bay. Highlights of Polliwog Park include a large pond, an amphitheater, three gazebos, two large playground areas, the Manhattan Beach Historical Society’s “little red house” museum, a dog park, and a free open-air fitness center. The park is also adjacent to the Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden, Begg Pool, and Premier Little League Field.
The Polliwog Park pond is bordered on one side by a natural wildlife refuge and is home to a variety of fish, turtles, and birds. The entire park serves as a catch basin for rainwater, so during heavy rains, the pond often fills up and spills out into the playground area.
The amphitheater is home to a regular series of summer concerts as well as other special performances and festivals. The gazebos, which can be reserved in advance for two-hour periods, are also popular sites for parties, weddings, and other gatherings. A variety of picnic tables and barbecues are also available for use.
Also in the center of the park, along Manhattan Beach Boulevard is Manhattan Beach’s historical museum. The museum is located within the “little red house,” one of the oldest beach cottages in the area, which was moved to Polliwog Park and refurbished.
On the westernmost edge of the park is Begg Pool which is open throughout the year for lap swimming and other aquatics, as well as the volunteer-run Manhattan Beach Botanical Garden, which features native California plants.
The park also contains restroom facilities and drinking fountains. Curbside parking is available along Redondo Avenue and Manhattan Beach Boulevard.
