Pacific Elementary School
Pacific Elementary School is one of five public elementary schools in the Manhattan Beach Unified School District, serving grades K-5. Located on Pacific Avenue between Manhattan Beach Blvd. and 17th St., it primarily serves residents who live west of Sepulveda, south of Rosecrans Ave, east of Pacific Ave., and north of Manhattan Beach Blvd.
Pacific was the first school built in Manhattan Beach, following approval of a bond issue in 1913. At the time it was known as Center School and had just 43 students. Now it is the largest elementary school in Manhattan Beach with more than 500 students.
Pacific prides itself on a commitment to high-quality academics and learning for the whole student. Pacific was named a National Blue Ribbon School in 1997; a California Gold Ribbon School in 2016; and a California Distinguished School in 2014 and 2023. According to GreatSchools.org, Pacific Elementary has an overall rating of 10/10 and 10/10 for test scores.
Pacific features a “buddy” program where each classroom is paired with a “buddy” class at a different grade level. The Panther Buddies meet throughout the year and participate together in various activities, including reading, art, and writing projects. This program encourages the development of PRIDE traits (Positive, Respectful, Inclusive, Dependable, Engaged), leadership, social skills, and community-building.
Touring the school, one can find unique names of buildings to major history players such as the “Shakespeare Building.” Another unique element of the school is the facts stated under each room number. For example, Room 8 says “ ounces in a cup.” Curiosity and critical thinking are hallmarks of learning at Pacific Elementary.
Among multiple events, Pacific is known for its annual Movie Night fundraiser, usually held on the athletic fields in the fall.
