One of the larger districts of East Manhattan Beach is the Mira Costa area, designated as Area 147 in the MLS. This section is named for Mira Costa High School, which is within the area.
This district is bordered by some of the largest streets in the city: Artesia Blvd. to the south and Manhattan Beach Blvd. to the north, Aviation Blvd. to the east and Sepulveda Blvd. to the west. Here in the Mira Costa district, many of the lots are 50 feet wide by 150 feet deep, or 7500 sqft. total, allowing for both large homes and sizable yards (for the city). However, some lots run more like 5000 sqft., and there are a few enclaves of exclusive homes on very large lots.
The Mira Costa area is fairly hilly, with city views and views of the Palos Verdes peninsula from some. Some residents even proposed to rename the area "Manhattan Knolls."
The "Poets Section" is an southern district between Mira Costa High School and Sepulveda Blvd., with streets named for poets: Keats, Longfellow, Shelley and Tennyson.
Children living in the Mira Costa district will typically attend Pennekamp Elementary, which is located in the district near the intersection of Peck Avenue and 2nd Street.
