Forget the Free Car – Again

By Dave Fratello | March 4th, 2010
In our short, 3-year history here at MBC, we've now seen 2 separate listings offer a free car to buyers.

The sellers are 0 for 2.

With a new price cut, 228 34th has also now dropped any reference to the free Porsche 911 first offered in early December. (See "Open-Air Living, Open-Air Driving.")

Instead, they're trying cumulative price cuts of nearly $500k since December, and nearly $900k since the listing first came up in Sept. 2008. It's now offered at the quirky price of $3.112m.

With savings like that, you can pick your own car(s). (Choose carefully, though, dear readers – these are dicey times for new cars.)

As a refresher, 228 34th is a 4br/4ba, 3725 sq. ft. North End house near the beach, not much to look at on the outside, but fun inside – a party house – and it offers a rare, big roof deck.

Price has obviously been a prime sticking point. As MBC said in December:
At $3.6m, there's got to be a ways to go still for 228 34th. Have we all forgotten the best deal of 2008 for the Sand Section, a bigger, smashing brand-new home across the walkstreet at 221 34th, which closed for $3.315m in January [2009]?
At about $3.1m, the listing is getting somewhere near where it needs to be. On the bright side, the seller gets to keep his convertible for the Summer.
