Bring The Cup to MB This Time

By Dave Fratello | June 13th, 2014

The Kings have done their job.

Now let's see the city fathers do theirs, here in MB.

Two years ago, when the nearly all-local Manhattan/Hermosa Kings won the Cup, who hosted the big public celebration?

Hermosa.

And who hosted the private, invite-only, off-the-radar celebration locked inside city facilities, where Kings fans lucky enough to happen by were told, "No, this is a closed event?"

Manhattan Beach. Ugh. (Dave snuck in so you wouldn't have to. See our post from 2012, "The Cup's HB/MB Tour.")

This tony, above-it-all, VIP-only attitude does not have to prevail in 2014.

The Cup needs a little drink of Pacific Ocean water at the MB Pier (which is festooned for the occasion), a little waft of the breeze in Downtown MB, a Cup Moment at Pancho's in El Porto. That kind of thing. (Photo via this video by Bo Bridges.)

And what we really need is a parade.

Call this a challenge.

MB, you blew it last time.

But that's OK, we've rebooted the city leadership, and we can all learn from past experiences.

It's time for an MB Stanley Cup celebration. No invites necessary.

You might even look east of Sepulveda for the ideal stopping point, once the parade concludes.

OK, city fathers and mothers, get it right this time.
